Hello, and a very big welcome to a brand new episode of the elevated entrepreneur podcast. Now this isn’t your typical episode where you get to hear me talking. But this is a collaboration episode with two of my favorite co hosts Warsha and Evan, who also run a podcast called The Dare to Scale show, and you may know them from some of the previous collaboration episodes that we have done. This one is a brilliant episode, we had so much fun recording on air and off air, and getting to talk about some of the life lessons we can take from a children’s book called Winnie the Pooh.
Yes, your favorite Golden Bear called Winnie the Pooh, and a book that you may have read many years ago. If you haven’t read the book, or watch the movie and it’s been a while. No worries, grab a pair of headphones, grab your favorite cup of coffee, and turn up the volume because this episode is phenomenal. Because there are so many golden nuggets in there that you can use into your lives every day, which is why we call this episode daily life mantras from Winnie the Pooh. So help me Cue the music.
You’re listening to the elevated entrepreneur podcast, a podcast designed to help retailers restauranteurs and entrepreneurs simplify business operations and use modern technology to elevate their business. Here’s your host, Deron batea.
Welcome to a fantastic podcast episode. Again, it is a collaboration episode. And as promised, this is part two of taking a children’s book and reading through it, taking some interesting thoughts from it. I’m joined by my two favorite co hosts, Warsha and Evan who run a podcast called The Dare to Scale show. So this show is going to be releasing on both podcast the elevated entrepreneur as well as the day to scale show if you haven’t already, check out part one where we take Alice in Wonderland. And we look into that book. And this is part two.
So I’d love to welcome version seven version one say hello. Hello. Hello, hello. This is wonderful to be doing a collab episode again. It is brilliant to have such a wonderful co host with us. Darren, thank you very much for starting these two parts, because it was you actually picked us up and said, Well, you know was we talk about it so many times. And why aren’t we talking into a microphone about this? Because this is what all our listeners should be joining the conversation with. So thank you very much.
So I mean, the framing of this is actually quite interesting. Being an entrepreneur can be somewhat lonely, and everybody has difficult days. And there’s a wonderful quote. It’s a excerpt from one of the books, and I’m going to read this for you. Today was a difficult day said Who? There was a pause. Do you want to talk about aspected? No, said who after a bit? No, I don’t think so.
I don’t think I do that. Okay, so Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. What are you doing ask boo. Like I’d difficult days either. But goodness continued piglet. difficult days are so much easier when you know you’ve got someone there for you. And I’ll always be there for you. And as Pusat they’re working through in his head his difficult day. While the solid reliable piglet sat next to him quietly swinging his little legs. He thought that his best friend had never been more right. Absolutely love that quote.
Thank you, Evan, for the beautiful quote. And I love the way you read it. I do think you have a beautiful DJ voice. By the way. Did you ever think about doing DJ work?
I do have a face for radio after all.
Famous last words, but bringing it back to the episode. So watch the end even today, I think we’re going to do this slightly differently. So when we did Alice in Wonderland, we thought about looking at the court and then having a group chat. But today we’re going to play a slightly different game. We’re going to have each one of us pick one of the quotes that we like, and we’re going to pass it off to one of us randomly to tell us what they think in one word or one phrase about that quote, because as Evan said earlier, life is not just about business.
It’s not just about running around in circles. There’s more to it. And Winnie the Pooh, the book is purely about take time to smell the roses and we hope that you will enjoy this little game we’re playing so with that, Marsha, you’re up and you get to pick first dibs because the lady always goes first. Thank you. As they’re a new set, were picking up the book on these wonderful characters Winnie the Pooh, Piglet and the whole lot in the jungle. So the quote I’m picking today is could be worse. Not sure how. But it could be. Evan, what’s your word over there?
Well, the one word is washer. But the reason I say that is your mantra that goes with that you Think 10 steps ahead. So it’s about looking at the ups and the downs and preparing for it. So my quote, promise me, you’ll always remember, YOU ARE braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think
they’re going on. This should be like my morning routine. Every morning, I get up. And I say this to myself, because this is so impactful, because we always forget how good we are, and how smart we are. Because we’re constantly doubting ourselves. So again, I think of worship and I hear this it’s think big, think positively. Bass, my phrase for this one. Alright, so I go next, let me pick one, because I love picking on everyone. So even if the person you are talking to doesn’t appear to be listening, be patient, it may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear. But do you think of that?
Well, obviously, it’s a metaphor, and to me is distraction, which also then means smartphones, put them down, you know, less screen time is better. I think that that’s a wonderful way of just reminding us to actually be present. I like that. Sir, I’ve got one for you. Bring it on. It all comes of not having front doors big enough?
Oh, yes. How many times do we wake up thinking? Oh, can I do it. But I don’t know, self doubt is the one thing that creeps in on us without even realizing. And many times, something else that we don’t realize is how many times we are afraid of our own success. So to me when you said it all comes of not having front doors big enough is the underlying fear of success. So keep those doors big enough, open wide enough. Because when you are fearless about success, the world really is your oyster.
So on that note, then this one is for you. One of the advantages of being disorganized is that one is always having surprising discoveries. This is like the very opposite of who I am. And I think this is a lesson I need to remind myself every day, there is so much to be found when you’re looking in places that you’ve never thought of. The other thing is if you’re always going to be going about in a plan or in a very rigorous manner. And you’re going to think about what’s the next step you might miss some of the smaller details. So maybe having a disorganized day, or having a little bit of commotion is not a bad thing. Nice fun.
I would love to add something to them. For sure, go for it. I once had a really good boss many, many years ago, and he said, in the thick of things, any good general knows exactly where his troops are.
Nice one, indeed. All right. I got one more for everyone. Think think think,
okay, that’s hilarious, because it’s about who always thinks he doesn’t have a brain or he was always called a silly little bear. But you know, that strikes me as taking strategic thinking time, stop, smell the roses, like we’ve been saying and look up, look out. Sometimes there’s too many doers and too few thinkers. So yeah, that’s what that one means to me. Oh, I
like that. I like that. How many times do we spend our life wanting to do
that or not have that she got one for you. Don’t underestimate the value of doing nothing of just going along, listening to all the things you can’t hear and not bothering.
I think this one, as much as we were talking about mantras for the day, we’re talking about things that we should be saying to ourselves, I do think this one also does go back to business and maybe even just life in general. We’re so busy thinking of things that we need to be doing. And maybe not spending enough time just doing nothing. Because if you’re not doing nothing, you’re actually opening yourself up to the possibilities of everything else that may be not visible when you’re so busy thinking.
So there’s this hashtag that you were saying, Evan, which I really liked it’s management by wandering out. It’s really the ability to not be so focused on that one thing but just listen and observe. That’s what I think about that one. If I may add something to that is really is about sitting back and letting your eyes look far out at the horizon and not focus on one thing but zoom out a little bit and expanding your peripheral vision. And suddenly you start noticing things that go unnoticed when you are constantly focused on one thing and laser sharp focus.
Sometimes it’s okay to just fly back and taken What in around you in your peripheral vision? Expanding your vision? Absolutely brilliant, which is just one more thing I want to add to that. Yeah, you know, we get the funniest and the best thoughts in the shower. I think this is why, because we’re not busy thinking about other things, which is why I get the best episode ideas when I’m in the shower. So this is really, really important one to remember. That’s the one. All right, so it’s my turn. And I want to pass this one to washer, so shall I buy one for you. We will be friends until forever. Just you wait and see.
I know because of the work that we do, and the podcasts that we run, we keep coming back to entrepreneurs, I’m gonna take this outside the entrepreneurial view and put it out to life in general, there is nothing that happens as a coincidence. There’s no such thing as everything happens for a reason. And the reason we might not know and everybody that we come across, we come across for a bigger reason.
So we will be friends until forever Just you wait and see. Because you never know why that particular person has come within your world and your circle, because there is a bigger reason. And that reason might be the one that breaks the pattern and takes you to a level higher because that’s the friend that you’ve been waiting for.
Then you always say never burn bridges. And that’s a mantra in and of itself.
Yeah, I absolutely firmly believe in that doesn’t matter what no burn bridges. And also, there’s one more thing to that. I think relationships take time. I think relationships of value, need effort, they need time to be put in and so that you become friends forever. And maybe we don’t see it on day one or day 10, especially when there’s a hard conversation, we miss that.
But if we kept up with it, that’s friendship for life, it is friendship for life, then it takes me to a slightly different tangent, which says, maybe we put a lot of weight on the word friend because we all have preconceived notions about what a friend is. And yet, it’s perfectly alright, to accept somebody else’s notion of what friend is. So if we look at it like that, there is a friend, and that friend appears when you most need that person. And then they may or may not be always part of your life, but they’re always friends in your life. That’s true.
then I’m gonna give this to you. I am not lost for I know where I am. However, what I am maybe lost? Well, this was really difficult for me. Evan, what about you? I’m going to need some help with this one. I’m not lost for where I am. But where I am me lost.
You know what, I think picture you entrepreneur. Without a support group. You know what you want to be doing. But maybe you don’t know what you don’t know, kind of thing. So where you actually maybe is lost. And I think it goes hand in hand with one before the one you talked about whatever, we’ll be friends. So when you find your support group, you’ll be friends forever. Just wait and see. And it all worked out? Didn’t back to you.
I think what Evan was just saying makes a lot of sense. I’m reading this quote again. And let’s also, I think, to the fact that in life, maybe we need friends who also lost with us. And so I think when two people are lost, they get to a better place. I know this is really out there. But I do think that it’s good to have friends who are equally lost. It’s okay to be lost. And it’s okay to have someone to say that, hey, listen, I’m lost, are you and can we find a way together? That’s what I’m thinking from that.
Now. To me, it’s a very meta view that needs to be in place to look at this particular quote, because if you read the first sentence, he clearly says I’m not lost because I know where I am. So if you’re caught wandering about in the forest, you’re not lost, you know where you are, you are in the middle of the forest, for where you are maybe lost, maybe you need to be in a different track. So you’re not lost.
And yet, you may not be where you are meant to be. And that’s the main connotation of meaning of lost. So, for me, if I take that super meta view, that’s how it comes across to me. All right, back to me. And I have one for Evan which is thicket over think it
under one word, perspective. Love it sharp. Okay, so to keep us back on track, what it tells me what weeds the flowers to, once you get to know them.
Things may not make complete sense because you don’t have the full context of it when you get the context. They are exactly what you want a need for that moment. Then to you. You can’t stay in your corner of the forest, waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them. Sometimes, I think there’s two things to this one is, which is the most important one.
If you need help, ask for help, no one’s going to come and give you help. If you don’t ask for if you don’t put your hand out, whether it’s friendship business, even with your wife, or your husband asked for it, there’s no shame in asking for help. And second, the other side of this is build it and they will come to you. So if you have something really good, share it, put it out there, and people will come to you, or you will go to them, and then they will hear about it, and then they will come to you. So that’s what I’m thinking from that. All right, I’m gonna pass one to wash it because I know you’re gonna smash this one out of the park. People say nothing is impossible, but I do nothing every day.
No pressure. Be careful of the words you choose. When you say nothing is impossible, you already have a negative over there when it’s so easy. If nothing is impossible, we all do nothing every day, it’s perfectly possible for us to put our feet up. And that takes me back to one of the codes right in the beginning, which says it’s okay to do nothing. Because that is one of the most beautiful times of life. So why is it impossible? Everything is possible. Evan, one for you. I didn’t know ones only have sort of forgotten.
You know, that one to me is about being unconsciously competent, I think. So you get really good at what you’re doing. And you’ve sort of forgotten but you never forget. The other side of that. And maybe it’s a sort of a subtext is always be prepared to question what you’re doing to see if there’s a better way,
if very nice, I’d like to add something to that. It’s a quick quote almost from my great niece, when she was about four years old. She used to always repeat, because I would ask her, have you forgotten? She says, No, I have not forgotten. I just didn’t remember. Correct that said at all. So your turn to pass the baton on to someone.
Right? I’m going to read this one. A little consideration. A little thought for others, makes all the difference. There in.
I know this is very self explanatory. But I think this is a stark reminder that we get so caught up in our own lives. Having a little space for somebody else’s perspective, having space for somebody else’s worldview, I think is really, really important. Because I know we said this analysis model and my reality is not the same as yours. And having that space to be able to accept somebody else’s worldview would make all the difference in the world.
Alright, I’m going to give this one to Warsha. What day is it? Asked to. It’s today squeak, Piglet. My favorite day said boo Basha, what do you think of this one? Oh, this for me is the meaning of life. It sounds very profound. But that’s exactly what this is. This is my mantra for the day. And my mantra for closing of the day. Because what day is it is not a literal question on what day of the week it is. It really is. It’s today. And it’s my favorite day says poo because the minute you put that spin on things, if that becomes your mantra that today is my favorite day.
Everything that happens in the day that you make happen for yourself and people around you has the potential to make it your favorite day, every single day when the sunrises is your favorite day. To me, this is my mantra for years now. This is one of my favorite quotes ever. Thank you for asking me that was beautiful. Totally. It is so wonderful. And the more we say it it’s like peeling onion layers. I know everyone’s gonna giggle because I’ve heard about this so many times but it really is this one is like peeling onion layers for me. Every time I hear there’s a different meaning that comes to me or a deeper meaning. I love this one. So Evan, here’s one for you. I wasn’t going to eat it. I was just going to taste it.
And with the completely guilty look on my face. I’ll say Nuff said “Love it”!
It reminds me because we did the reading of the boy and everything the last time and I do seem to remember the cake disappeared rather quickly. So that reminds me but ya know, Nuff said. I’m just gonna taste it really. And speaking which one I want to read next is probably for me too. I am short, fat and proud of that. Then what do you make of that?
I don’t get to see Get what you think about me. Short fatten proud of that. Loving hashtag no cancel culture I got one for your show. Yes, cos I wonder how many wishes a star can give. Nothing is impossible a stock and give you as many wishes, as you ask for. So there’s something that Evan recently started saying everything about setting goals and milestones is about be specific, be specific, be specific. And yet, by being specific, are you putting a limiting belief on that?
So if you’re looking for a specific number, whatever that number represents, if you’re asking for five, how many wishes can a star give by saying five? You’re putting a limiting belief on that to say a star can give five? What if the star wants to do 25? So how many wishes gonna start give as many as you want. So a star resides within you. To me, everything is within you. This is one thing that struck me and it just hit me now my dad always used to send us it still does, nobody died of asking. So ask away, ask away, the star is waiting to give it to you. So ask away as many times as you want. Beautiful. So Evan, here’s one for you. when life throws you a rainy day, lay in the puddles.
Man, all I can say is make a splash. But you know, it just reminds me of the story I read right at the beginning, difficult days, rainy days, you know, play in the puddles make the best of it? What do you think they’re
absolutely make a splash. And no matter how bad the day is going, it’s all about perspective. And if you think that the day is bad, make it better. Make it play in the puddles and make it better. It’s only because there was one of the ports that we read out earlier, about being disorganized and missing surprises. So why are we already qualifying a day to be bad, it’s a rainy day, it’s time to play the paddles. It’s perfectly okay for a day to be going the way it is. Because there’s a surprise hidden over there.
Over to the run. perspective makes all the difference. Washa. And Evan, thank you so much. We’re at the end of our list. And we’ve had a fantastic time reading these amazing quotes and giving our thoughts and words for it. We hope that everybody listening has had an equally fun time. And remember, these are what we think are amazing mantras for the day. So take them, remember them, read them everyday in the morning, we’d love for you to start your day and maybe even end your day with one of these words and Evan, anything that you’d like to say before we wrap the episode up?
No, absolutely. I had fun doing this. And it’s the same with any of the children’s books that authors are really smart people and they throw all sorts of wonderful nuances into their writing. And you know what, it’s just magic when we do something like this and just read those quotes and think you know, wow, so I’ve had such fun. Thanks, guys. For sure.
Most books that we read are not just to read on social media and continue scrolling through. There’s a reason why certain quotes appear. And it is for times like these, make that your mantra for the day and see how the day turns out. completely unexpected and wonderfully surprising. Brilliant. Remember, guys, this is a collaboration episode, you’re going to find it on both the podcast on Dare to Scale show as well as the Elevated Entrepreneur podcast.
